Privacy policy

Scope and definitions

This policy describes how Untitled Mixed Media LLC, referred to below as "I" and "me," handles information collected through untitledmixedmedia.com, referred to below as "this site."

Personal data means any information from which you could be identified, either on its own or together with other information I hold.Processing means anything done with that information, including collecting, storing, using, disclosing, and deleting it. Where this policy states that something does not occur, that statement describes the site as built, and it is verified against the source of the site before each release.

Untitled Mixed Media LLC operates in Richmond, Virginia. The Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act imposes obligations on controllers that process the personal data of at least 100,000 consumers in a calendar year, a threshold this site does not approach. The practices described below are therefore adopted as a matter of policy rather than in satisfaction of a statutory requirement, and they are not contingent on that threshold being reached.

What this site does not do

The following are absent by design rather than by configuration, and each is verifiable in the source of the page you are reading.

• No cookies are set, for any purpose, including measurement and advertising.
• One analytics service is used: Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits and page views and is described below. It sets no cookie and assigns no visitor identifier. There is no Google Analytics property, no Meta pixel, and no advertising tracker of any kind.
• No identifier is assigned to you. Because no cookie, stored number, or device fingerprint exists, activity on one page cannot be associated with activity on another, or with you.
• No advertising is displayed, and this site belongs to no advertising network.
• One script loads from another company’s server: the Cloudflare Web Analytics beacon described below. Fonts, images, stylesheets, and every other script are served from this domain.
• No account is offered, and no password is held.
• No payment is taken, and no card number is transmitted or stored.
• No location is requested.
• Nothing about you is sold or licensed. What I keep is what you sent me: the message you wrote in the contact form, or an email address you entered into the mailing list field.

What this site records

To establish whether this site performs its function, it records a limited set of events. Each record is written to a dataset held on my own Cloudflare account. No record is transmitted to an analytics provider, and none is sold.

The events recorded are:

• that a page was opened, and which page;
• that the written section of a case study was opened, and which project it concerned;
• that the contact form was started, and whether it was submitted or abandoned;
• where the form returned an error, the field on which it occurred, so that a field which proves difficult to complete can be corrected;
• that the mailing list field was opened, or that a link leaving this site was followed;
• the country from which the request originated, and the host name of the referring site where one exists.

Two limits apply to the final item. The country is recorded and never a narrower location, and the referring host name is recorded and never the full address, because a full address can carry terms entered into a search field.

Each entry is a count and nothing further. Because no identifier is assigned, I can establish that a case study was opened 40 times. I cannot establish that you opened it, that one person opened it twice, or what was done afterwards. That limitation is deliberate, and it is the reason this site requires no consent banner.

Where your browser transmits a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, no event is recorded at all.

Separately, this site loads Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits, page views, referring sites, countries, and page performance as measured on real devices. It answers how many people visit, which the record described above deliberately cannot. It sets no cookie, assigns no visitor identifier, and collects no personal data.

Information you provide

When you submit the contact form, the message is transmitted from your browser to this site and passed immediately to Resend, the provider that delivers it to my inbox. No part of the message is stored on this site. Resend performs the delivery and retains a short delivery record, as any mail provider does, and its own privacy policy governs that record.

If delivery fails for any reason, the page reports the failure and displays my email address, rather than reporting success and discarding what you wrote.

Once the message reaches me, I hold whatever you chose to include: your name, your email address, the location of the work, and your description of it. I use that information to reply to you and to price the work. I retain it in my email account, as any small business retains its correspondence, for the duration of the inquiry or the job and afterwards as a business record. I do not add you to the mailing list, and I do not disclose it to anyone else.

The mailing list

The field at the foot of each page stores one item: the email address you enter. It is held with Resend, the same provider that delivers the contact form. It is disclosed to no one else, and it is never sold.

No message has yet been sent to that list. There is no welcome message and no campaign. The list exists so that, when there is something worth sending, at most a few times a year, there is somewhere to send it. Every message sent to it will carry a working unsubscribe link, and you may ask to be removed at any time by writing to the address at the foot of this page.

Data stored in your browser

If you switch this site between light and dark, your browser records that choice under the name umm-theme. The stored value is a single word, either light ordark. It is held in local storage rather than in a cookie, it never leaves your device, and it is transmitted neither to me nor to anyone else. Clearing your browsing data removes it.

Service providers

Two providers process information on my behalf, and each is bound by its own published terms.

Cloudflare serves this site. As any provider that delivers a website must, Cloudflare processes the request your browser makes, which includes your IP address, and retains short-term records in order to operate the service and to prevent attacks. That processing occurs whether or not you contact me. I do not receive those records, and I have no means of identifying you within them. Cloudflare’s own privacy policy governs them.

Cloudflare also provides the Web Analytics service described above, which is the only script on this site served from another company.

Resend delivers messages sent through the contact form and holds the mailing list, as described above.

How long I keep it

Correspondence is retained for the duration of the inquiry or the job, and afterwards as a business record. If you have commissioned work from me, I may be required to retain invoices and contracts for tax and legal purposes. If you ask me to delete your information, I will identify which of those requirements apply rather than refuse the request without explanation.

Recorded events carry no identifier and are therefore associated with no person. They are retained on my Cloudflare account under that product’s own retention period.

Your rights

You may ask what personal data I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to the address at the foot of this page, and I will respond within 30 days. There is no charge for any of those requests.

Children

This site is directed at those commissioning murals and signs. It is not directed at children, and it collects no personal data from any person, including any person under 13.

Links to other services

This site links to Instagram. The link is a link and not embedded content, so nothing loads from Instagram unless you follow it. Once you do, you are on their service, and their privacy policy applies rather than this one.

Changes to this policy

If this site changes in a way that makes any statement here inaccurate, I will amend this page and revise the date above. Adding an analytics provider, storing a submission on the site, taking payment, or embedding third-party content would each require an amendment before the change went live.
